Instructions for translators

Important informations :

Here is a playable YTTD build automatically updated every hour to this translation project. You can refresh the page with the F5 key in case an update has happened server-side and your browser did not upgrade to it. Just like with Vgperson's build, your saves are stored with cookies. Be careful not to clear them!

For the curious ones, you can check the automated YTTD build's scripts and features here!

While translating the YTTD-FR project, if you stumble upon weird or incomprehensible looking strings, skip them and tell @vinceh121. Please, do not edit or translate them.

Everyone that participated in this project will be credited under the username they choose for their account.

Got an issue? Noticed a bug? @nad is here! I guess!! @vinceh121 also works!

Permissions :

This website's administrators are @nad and @vinceh121. This means they basically have all permissions here and keep close watch over this project.

Next, there are the translators. They are an exclusive group of people that have the permissions required to translate strings and post comments. To be a translator, you need an account with special configuration from the administrators.

Finally, the contributors. Any other people that make an account can suggest translations of any string or word! However, they cannot translate strings. They can still vote for suggestions, though!

Every person who contributed to this project will be credited once it will be finished.

Getting started :

So, you came all the way through here, motivated and furious, looking to epically translate things and stuff... but you're so lost you literally can't even? Fear no longer!

Here is a basic, short and lighthearted tutorial about the basics.

Here is the French translation project of YTTD. From this page, you can choose the kind of strings (lines of text) you want to translate. Let's choose 'Unfinished strings' for this tutorial. In the top left corner, you can see the number of pages left from the category or search results you made. There's also a search bar right on the, well... right. Right on the bottom is the translation part of the page! There's the original English line that you can't edit and the French one that you're supposed to fill up.

The buttons are pretty self-explanatory, I'm not gonna delve into them. Not too far from the buttons, you should be able to notice some tabs. I'm gonna get into details for the basic ones. They really are self-explanatory... The 'Nearby strings' tab gives you more context using previous and incoming lines of dialogues. The 'Comment' tab allows you to read and make comments about a string if you're a translator.

Now, look alive! It's almost over, I promise. Check the top right-hand corner. See the glossary? You can add words to it. When words that are in the glossary get detected in a string, they show up in the glossary part of the page. Here is an intuitive example with Sue Miley.

Finally, the string's information! This tab is really useful : its goal is to give you even more precious context about the string you're currently reviewing. To this end, screenshots and labels are sometimes available. The screenshots allow you to take a look at a picture of the moment the string is rendered in the game. In the "Labels" tab, you can get a bit more information about a string, like which character is saying the line you're translating. That's what you should be looking for if a string seems suspicious, as some lines are unused and some other ones are technical stuff you seriously don't want to poke. They make it easy to know if a line should be translated or not (if you're not sure, just skip and ask @nad or @vinceh121 eventually). From this part of the page, with the correct permissions, you can also add some notes to a string by clicking on the small pencil. It's really useful!

Remember : if you meet any issues or notice any inconsistencies in this part of the page, contact @nad or @vinceh121!

That's all! By the way, the glossary works exactly the same way as the YTTD French translation project... except administrators can make new entries to add terms. This makes it really easy to organize and check what words have already been translated or need suggestions in order to stay consistent. If that's not seriously convenient, I don't know what is!

Well, I think that's pretty much it. Hope this cleared things up!

Graphists :

Graphists, you can check the images that need to be edited and translated by accessing and rummaging through the folders here.

Check the commit's title on the right side of an image's name to conveniently know if it has already been translated or not. By clicking on a file, you can take a look at it and download it.

To commit and upload a translated image to the build, just send the image decrypted to @nad or @vinceh121 alongside your username so that we can credit you!

Animations :

Animations show up during debates ("Discussion End", "Battle", "Introductions"...).

Suggest or edit translations for animations in the Animations component.

Once translations are done, @nad will edit and upload them manually.

Choices :

The possible values in choice popups are listed as a single string, each option on its own line.

Furthermore, choice boxes resize themselves dynamically according to the line's length. The longer the line, the longer the box gets.

Nadeko's translation notes :

The notes @nad collected while first working on the game are integrated in the glossary!

Notably, there are tags in some strings that are used to change font colors, font size, display images... If you're not quite sure about the effect of one, check the glossary.

@nad compiled most of them inside.

Nadeko's early translation suggestion :

@nad worked alone for some time on a translation a few years ago (C1-1 done, C1-2 almost finished) and is directly suggested if possible when you're looking to translate a string.

However, sometimes, @nad 's original translation doesn't directly show up as a suggested translation. Instead, the automatic suggestion does.

To fix this, search in the suggestions for the first English line of the string you're looking to translate. It should show up there, in the translation memory.
